The EFL Students’ Critical Reading Skills Across Cognitive Styles

This study aims to explore the difference between field independent (FI) and dependent (FD) learners in area of EFL critical reading skills. To this end, 60 undergraduate students who had taken passed Critical Reading course involved as subjects. The Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT) was administered classify students’ cognitive styles into FI FD groups. Furthermore, measure skills, comprehension test (CRCT) form multiple choice questions developed administered. items were focused on assessing analytical inferential skills texts, specifically determining main idea, purpose, tone, making an inference taking conclusion. findings indicate that there is a statistically significant students. More specifically, differences are inference, conclusion texts CRCT. Pedagogically, selecting appropriate be used practice for developing will beneficial both
